Edna Ruth Allen Edwards went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 30, 2022. She passed away peacefully at Roanoke Memorial Hospital with loving family and friends by her side. Edna Ruth was born in Carroll County, VA. on December 16, 1929.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Thomas Allen and Alverta Rutherford Allen; son, James Carroll Fender; grandson, Jason Smith; brother, Joe Thomas Allen, Jr.; and sister, Helen Allen.

Edna Ruth was a wonderful, loving mother and grandmother. One of her joys in life was cooking for her family and friends. She was an excellent cook, and was especially known for her Red Velvet Cake, Sweet Potato Casserole, and Macaroni Salad.

She was a long-time resident of Ennice, NC. She retired from Hanes Corp. in 1993 after 27 years, but continued working in different fields, including home healthcare, before moving to Roanoke, VA. in 2008.

Edna Ruth leaves behind two daughters, Brenda Fender (Roanoke), and Barbara Williams (Galax); one son, Vincent Lee Edwards, and the apple of her eye, grandson, Dylan Edwards (both of Galax); sister, Rita McKenzie (Galax); and brother, Roger Allen (Galax);  six grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Galax, VA. at a later date.
