Mrs. Nail, 94, entered heaven peacefully on April 2, 2009, from her home. She was born in Carroll County, Va., on Oct. 2, 1914, to the late William Lloyd and Stella Crawford Kirby.
Besides her parents, Edith was predeceased by her husband of 73 years, Irvin C. Nail; her infant son, Kenneth Wayne; three sisters, Bernice Reavis, Irene Parrish and Merle Gardner; one brother, Howard Kirby.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan Hackenberg and son in law, John of Charlotte, N.C.; one granddaughter, Jenny Keenan and husband, Joe of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; and two great grandchildren, Jay and Lily. She is also survived by one brother, Paul Kirby and wife, June of Warren, Mich.
Edith had a caring and compassionate heart and is greatly loved by her family and friends. She was known for her sense of humor, quick wit and cheerful attitude. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Ann Chappell, Janice Fields, Marlene Porterfield, Dr. Steve Irvin, Anna Leonard, Gene Fayne, Dr. Mark Clemons, the nurses at Southwest Home Health Care and especially to Dorothy Higgins for the tender, loving care they gave her during her declining years.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Oakland United Methodist Church on Sunday, April 5, 2009, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on April 4, 2009, at Vaughan Guynn Funeral Home in Galax.
