Edith Virginia Jones Carpenter, widow of Durward Carpenter, died Sunday, April 19, 2009 at her home on Pipers Gap Road, Galax, VA.

Mrs. Carpenter was born in Lambsburg, VA Nov. 2, 1925 to Earnest and Pattie Gray Jones.

She is survived by her children and their spouses Durward Stanley Carpenter, Galax, John Wesley and Connie Crawley Carpenter, Galax, Nona Faye Carpenter Donithan and husband, David,Galax, Jimmy Dean And Sara B. Carpenter, Bent Mountain, VA,
grandchildren, Rachel Holshouser, Karla Carpenter, Meagan Carpenter, Brandon Carpenter, Kinza Carpenter, Cary Carpenter, Alyssa Carpenter, Jacob Carpenter, Elizabeth Carpenter, Tessa Chaffman, Daniel Donithan, Dakota Donithan, Derek Donithan,; one step grandchild, Chris Donithan and three step great grandhildren; sisters & spouse, Nina Mae Sumner and husband Raymond, Woodlawn, VA and Thelma
Jones Sizemore of Galax. Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by three sisters Beulah Jones Rippey, June Jones Norman, Hazel Jones Reece.

Funeral service will be held at the Oakland United Methodist Church Wednesday, April 22 at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM Tuesday at the church. The officiating ministers will be the Reverends John Ousley, Jackie Delp and Kenneth Riggins. Flowers will be appreciated, however, memorial contributions may be made to Joy Ranch, Inc., Woodlawn, VA.. The body will lie-in-state one hour prior the funeral service.
