Douglas Lee Routh of Salem, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at the age of 78.

Doug was born on February 19, 1942, in Saltville, Va. to the late Charles Lewis Routh and Margaret Gillenwater Routh.

He was a graduate of East Tennessee State University and went on from there to teach at Carroll County High School and was an assistant football coach. He also worked for the Nationwide Insurance office in Roanoke, Va. for 25 years with his late wife Betty. In his free time, Doug loved golfing, fly fishing, and hunting with his sons, and was a devoted Hokie fan.

Doug and Betty joined First United Methodist Church when they arrived in Salem in 1980 and were loyal and faithful members always.

He is survived by his brother Charles Routh and wife Helen of Florida; Also surviving are sons Gregory D. Routh of Salem Va.; Gary L. Routh and Tandy of Blue Ridge Va. Additional survivors are three sister- in- laws, Joan Machara of Lexington, Ky.; Marilyn Brewer of Salem. Va.; Ruth Kreh and husband Don of Roanoke, Va. One brother-in-law, George Hill and wife Lois of Cumberland City, TN.; numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Services and burial will be conducted at the family cemetery in Fries, Va. at a later date.
