Dorothy Smith Higgins, 80, of Woodlawn, Virginia passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2012 in the Waddell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Galax, Virginia. Mrs. Higgins was born to Carl Smith and Katherine Mink Smith on Saturday, February 13, 1932. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter Lisa Diane Higgins and great granddaughter Natalie Jane Keith.

She is survived by her husband Elder R. Bruce Higgins of the home; daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Garry Worrell of Woodlawn, Virginia; sons and daughters-in-law: Ron and Sandy Higgins of Woodlawn, Virginia and Gary and Gwen Higgins of Galax, Virginia; sister Margaret Isom of Raeford, North Carolina; brother and sister-in-law Richard and Becky Smith of Harrisonburg, Virginia; nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday, November 23, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. John Grimm and Elder Edward Bowman officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Woodlawn, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church Benevolence Fund.
