Doris Lucille Sawyers age 100 of Galax, Virginia passed away Saturday, August 12, 2023 in the Forsyth Medical Center.

Mrs. Sawyers was born on June 7, 1923 in Ohio to Robert Franklin and Clara June Shockley Surratt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Gilbert Oakley Sawyers; a son Steve Sawyers; brothers Elmer Surratt; Conrad (Buddy) Surratt and Ken Surratt.

She is survived by a daughter Betty Spence Utt of Low Gap, North Carolina; sons and daughter-in-law Rev. David R. Sawyers of Indiana; Rev. Jerry and Connie Sawyers of Narrows; sister Melda Hill of Galax, Virginia; brother and sister-in-law Clayton and Patsy Surratt of Roanoke, Virginia; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. David Sawyers; the Rev. Jerry Sawyers and the Rev. James Billings officiating.. Burial will follow in the Felts Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 AM until time for the funeral service at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, 445 Poplar Knob Road in Galax, Virginia.

Mrs. Sawyers loved to do crafts and gardening and will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
