Doris King Mays age 92of Independence, Virginia and formerly of Elk Creek, Virginia went to her Heavenly Father on Sunday, November 3, 2024.
Mrs. Mays was born on October 2, 1932 in Wythe County, Virginia to Theodore (Ted) and Lucille Keith King. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Roy Mays, great-grandson Holden Joines, sisters Charlotte Etter and Becky King, and sisters-in-law Patty, Shelby and Linda King.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Patricia and Herbie Funk of Fries, Virginia; Sandra and Ronnie Cox of Sparta, North Carolina; grandchildren and spouses Melissa and Chad Miller of Laurel Springs, North Carolina; Stephanie and Barry Carrico of Fries Virginia; Jeremy Cox of Elk Creek, Virginia; Michael Shupe of Radford, Virginia; Tracy and Chad Stanley of Fries, Virginia; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law Carolyn and John Buxbaum of Salt Lake City, Utah; brother and special friend Stanley King and Joann of Suffolk, Virginia; brothers and sister-in-law Jerry King of Clinton South Carolina; T.R. and Vicki King of Wytheville, Virginia; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. T.R. King officiating. Burial will follow in the Comers Rock Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 PM until time for the funeral service at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the Staff of Grayson Nursing and Rehab Center for the love and care they gave to Mrs. Mays for 13 1/2 years and to the Mt. Valley Hospice for the love, care and support given to Mrs. Mays and her family.
