Don L. Lyons, 76, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2015 in the Brian Center Health and Rehab, Clayton, North Carolina. Don was born March 1, 1939 in Grayson County, Virginia to the late Dale C. Lyons and Allen Bowman Lyons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Bartlett Lyons and brothers Cody Lyons and Charles "Butch" Lyons.
Don was a member of the Stevens Creek United Methodist Church. He graduated from Fries High School in 1957. After graduation, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and served in the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions until 1962. For most of his career, he followed his father's footsteps in the grocery store business and ran The 94 Store. He was also a farmer, raising beef cattle. Don enjoyed spending time outdoors, gardening, feeding the birds, hunting, making apple butter and watching his grandson play baseball.
He is survived by daughter and son-in-law: Jeanie Lyons Brooks and Terry of Clayton, North Carolina and grandson Merritt Brooks.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 3:00 PM at the Stevens Creek United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until time for the service at the church.
