Obituary

Dennis Everette Alderman age 93 of Woodlawn, Virginia, a cherished husband, father and friend passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 in the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, North Carolina.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. Born with a heart of gold, Dennis dedicated his life to both his family and the land he cherished. A true believer in Jesus, he embodied faith and compassion, always ready to lend a helping hand.

Dennis found immense joy in the simple pleasures of farm life where he loved to take his grandkids fishing and creating a warm welcoming home.

In addition to farming, Dennis had a knack for wheeling and dealing often seeking the thrill of a bargain. His practical wisdom and generous spirit made him a beloved figure in the community.

Dennis was born on November 28, 1932  in Carroll County, Virginia to George Washington and Daisy Surratt Alderman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children Shirley Bartlett Alderman and a son Michael Alderman.

He is survived by his devoted wife Joyce Ann Fender Alderman of Woodlawn, Virginia; daughters and sons-in-law Lesa and Gene Goad of Hillsville, Virginia; Janie and Mike Brady of Galax, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law David and Ramona Alderman of Woodlawn, Virginia; step-children and spouses Jennifer Lynn Farmer of Austinville, Virginia; Jamie and Susanne Farmer; Robert and Ashley Farmer  all of Nashville, Tennessee; sister Mary Melton of Woodlawn, Virginia; six grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of love, faith and hard work; several step-great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Sunday at 11:00 AM in the Monta Vista Cemetery with Billy Burnette officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Dennis will be deeply missed by all who know him, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who cherish the values he embedded.
