Deloris Ann "Susie" Lyons transitioned peacefully into the arms of her heavenly family Tuesday July 9th at 2:30 pm while at home surrounded by her loving family. She was 81 years old.

Susie was the daughter of Archie Dale and Nellie Farmer Richardson of Galax, VA where she was born on February 16, 1943. When her paternal grandfather heard the name Deloris, he announced that he didn't like it and was going to call her Susie, the name that she was to be known by for the rest of her life.

She is survived by her husband Barry, her sons Barry Alan and Monte, Monte's wife Susie, grandchildren Ethan and Kyleigh and close family friend Michael Anthony. Susie and Barry were married for 62 Years. They met in high school and in fact, were wed by Barry's uncle, the Rev. Buren Littrell on the same day that Barry graduated from Fries High School. Susie enjoyed being around her family most, but also loved to read and collect books, animals, and Krispy Kreme donuts.

Those who were around Susie were affected by her deep and profound love. She loved fiercely and unconditionally, without reservations or judgment. Her love extended beyond her family into the world and echoed the love of Jesus, whom she loved and served faithfully. Those who knew her will carry her love with them throughout the rest of their lives.

The Memorial Service will be at West Galax United Methodist Church on Friday, July 12th at  11:00 am with visitation beginning one hour in advance. Because of the current heat wave, people attending are encouraged to dress comfortably. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Vaughan Guynn Funeral home for their considerate service and is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The United Women of Faith at West Galax United Methodist Church.

The family respectfully request no visitation at the home.
