Darrell Wayne Carpenter age 73 of Galax, Virginia passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at his home.

Darrell was born in Carroll County, Virginia on July 3, 1952 to William Everett and Lena Bedsaul Carpenter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Wilmer Carpenter, Robert Carpenter and Ima Paugh.

He is survived by his wife Cathy Carpenter of Galax, Virginia; daughters and sons-in-law Rebecca and Phillip Farmer of Check, Virginia; Keshia and Johnny Johnson of  Panama City, Florida; sons and daughters-in-law Kevin and Amanda Carpenter of Galax, Virginia; Brad and Natasha Carpenter of Independence, Virginia; step-son Matthew Payne;  sister and brother-in-law Freida and Tom Loggins of Lexington, North Carolina; brothers and sisters-in-law Ronald and Betty Carpenter of Fries, Virginia; Larry and Brenda Carpenter of Galax, Virginia; grandchildren and spouses Montana and Andrew Lineberry; EJ Donithan; Kevin Westmoreland; Gelsey  Caudill; Breanna Carpenter; Levi Carpenter; Jaylee Johnson and Lincoln Johnson; two great-grandchildren Josie Westmoreland and Emory Lineberry; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Elder Pete Hawks officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 PM until time for the service at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
