SSG Darol Dean Roberts, age 64 passed away at his home in Vass, North Carolina on Wednesday, October 3, 2012. He was born to Roy Lee and Opal Roberts in the Pine Mountain community of Grayson County on April 13, 1948.

Darol is survived by his wife, Joan Edwards Roberts and daughter Sarah Roberts of the home, one brother and wife, Jerry and Judy Roberts, Galax, and one sister and husband, Doris and Nick Moody of Woodlawn, Virginia.

Also surviving are his mother-in-law Inez Edwards, brother-in-law Ernie Edwards, and sister-in-law Carolyn Sue Edwards all of Hillsville, uncles Wayne Roberts, Argle Roberts, Elwood Roberts and Alvin Roberts all of Independence, Virginia, aunt Venda Farmer of Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Darol was preceded in death by his son Darol Dean Roberts, Jr. and brother, Randall Roberts.

He was an active, long time member of the Masons, and was a retired serviceman serving 27 years in the US Army. He was most recently employed with the Moore County Sheriff's Department and was Chief of Security at Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst.

Darol was an avid barbeque chef and loved to cater for businesses in the Vass area, and for his friends and family.

The family will receive friends at Cox Memorial Funeral Home in Vass, North Carolina on Friday evening from 6 to 8 pm and the funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 2pm. Burial will follow in the House of the Lord cemetery in Vass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College Street Oxford, North Carolina 27565.
