Curtis Howard Spears age 83 of Galax, Va. passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at Waddell Nursing Home. Mr. Spears was born on July 14, 1924 in Grayson County, Va. to Gustin & Lillie Brindle Spears. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two children, Judy Ann Steel & John Roger Spears. He is survived by his wife Elsie C. Spears of Galax, Va.; daughters Nancy N. Kettner of Fries, Va.; Francine J. Spears of Galax, Va.; son & daughter-in-law Curtis W. & Faye Spears of Woodlawn, Va.; step -daughter Natalie Hoffman of Clinton, N.C.; sister Pauline McBride of Galax, Va.; brother & sister-in-law Jimmy & Helen Spears of New Castle, De.; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews. The funeral service will be held Friday, November 9, 2007 at 11:00 am in Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Ted Bartlett & Rev. Ron Fredericks officiating. The body will lie-in-state one hour before the funeral service. Burial will follow in Saddle Mountain Cemetery with Military Rites by Grayson VFW Post 7726. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from seven until nine at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
