Curtis Allen Bartlett, age 32, of Galax, Virginia lived inspired while on earth and graduated to his most fulfilling adventure and assignment on Thursday, March 9, 2017.
Mr. Bartlett was born Aug. 17, 1984 in Danville, KY to William Samuel Bartlett, Jr. and Velinda Margaret Jalo Bartlett.
In addition to his parents, Sam & Linda Bartlett of Galax, VA, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Bill & Nell Bartlett, Galax, VA, maternal grandparents, Jack & Claudia Jalo, Galax, VA; sisters & brother-in-law, Bethany & George Lakomy, Bolton, MA, Faith Bartlett, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Victoria Bartlett, Galax, VA; brother, Caleb Bartlett, Galax, VA and nieces, Emma Lakomy and Carter Claire Lakomy, Girlfriend, Aimee van Dartel; Tyco, his beloved service dog.
Curtis served in the Army during the Iraq war, had several tours as part of an emergency response team at the US Embassy in Bagdad as a private contractor, and more recently came back home to serve as a deputy for the Carroll County Sheriff's Department. He was also an elite athlete serving as a Brand Ambassador for RSP Nutrition. Curtis impacted lives locally and around the world with thousands of followers on social media who watched his almost daily videos on physical training, tactical gear, and sometimes just his outrageously funny adventures. Many of his posts attracted several million views. Curtis loved his family and friends and never met a stranger. He loved music and played professionally as a drummer before entering the military.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Sam Bartlett & Todd Shaw officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM at First Baptist.
The Bartlett family is grateful for the love and support of their church family, the community, their law enforcement family, and the family at RSP Nutrition. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Curtis can be made to First Baptist Church or to Police Fitness. Curtis believed that health, strength, and fitness were vital to his duties as a law enforcement officer, and his mission was to take this message around the world.
