In the early morning hours of Friday, December 18, 2015, the Lord called home his faithful servant Coy Sidney Hill. He was born in Carroll County, Virginia on May 30, 1927 and was the last surviving child of the late Edward and Bessie alley Hill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joy Taylor Hill and great-grandson Jacob Dean Hill, brothers Elmer, Loyd and Junior; sisters Ethel, Pearl and Gertie.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, William Roger Hill and Molly Jones Hill, Danny and Joyce Mallory Hill, Ricky and Janet Goad Hill; four grandchildren Roger Christopher Hill, Shannon Hill Young, Nancy Hill Mankins and Daniel M. Hill; eight great grandchildren; sister-in-law Betty Young Hill, cousin Mae Hill Campbell, several nieces, nephews and his Church Family at Woodlawn Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Coy and his wife Joy were baptized on 12 April 1953 by Rev. Emory C. Stoneman at Fowlers's Ferry on New River. Coy's life was centered on his belief in God. He was devoted to his church, his community and his family.
Mr. Hill was employed at the Carnation Milk Plant in Galax for 35 years prior to its closing. Afterward, he worked with John S. Clark, Inc. on the construction of the visitor's center at Grayson Highlands State Park. He was later employed by the County of Carroll as operator of the County Cannery. Following his retirement, he ran for the Carroll County Board of Supervisors and was elected to serve one term as Supervisor at Large from 1991-1995. He represented Carroll County on the Mount Rogers Community Services Board and served as Chairman.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 2:30 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel. Interment will follow in the Monta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until service time.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Woodlawn Pentecostal Holiness Church, 3874 Oak Grove Road, Woodlawn, VA 24381
