Christie Dawn Corley Steward age 50 of Galax, Virginia passed away Thursday, April 2, 2026 in the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Christie was born on April 6, 1975 in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband Austin Dwayne Steward; son Cody Corley and several cousins, aunts and uncles.

Christie lived life a with a goal of making others happy and doing anything she could to make a positive impact. She always wanted to be known as the person that carried laughter, love and brightness along with her no matter what she set out to do. She always greeted anyone and everyone with a smile and was more than willing to take on anyone's burdens and help to the best of her abilities. Christie was very passionate about being a great nurse and brought her heart to work every single day. She is loved by many co-workers, family members, patients and so many others.

She is survived by her father and step-mother Steve and Sara Corley; mother Peggy Joyce; brother and sister-in-law Stephen and Michelle Corley ; nieces and nephews Wendy Koger; Austin Corley; Matthew Corley; Kadance Corley and Kenzie Corley; several great-nieces and great-nephews; cousins, aunts and uncles.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the West Galax United Methodist Church Saturday, April 11th from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM. In lieu of her bright life, any and all friends,family, colleagues and loved ones are welcome to attend this celebration of life/memorial as she impacted so many lives throughout her life journey. She will be greatly missed and remembered by so many people whose life she touched. An additional gathering will be held for family and friends at a later date in North Carolina with time and place to be announced.
