Charmie "Joan" Sharp Parnell, age 71, of Fries, Virginia passed away Saturday August 9, 2025 in Wythe County Hospital.

Joan was born on March 31, 1954 in Carroll County, Virginia to the late David O. and Helen Usley Sharp. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Claudia Doss and Bethel Ann Sharp; and brothers Warren J. Sharp and Dale C. Sharp.

She is survived by her husband Paul Parnell Sr. of Fries, Virginia; daughter Shannon C. Parnell of North Carolina; sons and daughters-in-law Jerry P. Parnell Jr. (Christina) of Galax, Virginia, James David Parnell (Jessica) of Fries, Virginia, and Bobby Joe "John R." Parnell (Kerri) of Galax, Virginia; brother and sister-in-law Ray K. Sharp (Peggy) of Austinville, Virginia; grandchildren Ambra McMillian, Christa Webb, Jacob Parnell, Tyler Farris, Paula Parnell, Alexandra Byrd, David "Andrew" Parnell, Ethan Parnell, and Kyraha Parnell; great grandchildren Cole McMillian, Luke McMillian, Olivia McMillian, Bryson Webb, Zitana Webb, Addison Parnell, Liam Parnell and baby Parnell; and special friend Freida Burcham. As well as several nieces and nephews.

The memorial service will be held Friday August 15, 2025 at 6:00PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Butch Pickett officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home until the time of service.
