Charlie Smith age 89 of Galax, Va. passed away Monday, March 10, 2008 at Waddell Nursing Home. Mr. Smith was born on April 28, 1918 in Grayson County, Virginia to Jackson & Dora Walker Smith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Doll Russell Smith, daughter Bonnie Bobbitt and sons Gene Russell and Sandy Russell. He is survived by his daughters Linda S. Herrington and Betty Ann Smith both of Galax, Va.; daughters-in-law Ruby Russell of Galax, Va.; Nellie Russell of Hillsville, Va.; brothers James Smith of Galax, Va. and Bruce Smith of Bassett, Va.; ten grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren and fourteen great-great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held Thursday, March 13, 2008 at 11:00 am at Snow Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Ernie Smith and Rev. Vinton Quesenberry officiating. The body will lie-in-state one hour prior the funeral service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from six until eight at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
