Charles (Charley) Whalen, Jr. age 82 of Galax, Virginia passed away Wednesday June 18, 2025 at his home.

Mr. Whalen was born on August 16, 1942 in Birmingham, Alabama to Charles (Charlie) and Louise Cobb Whalen, Sr.. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife  and mother of his children Peggy Whalen.

He is survived by his wife Doris Bedwell of Galax, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law Lori and Jim Aliff of Hardy, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law Scott and Deborah Whalen of Cary, North Carolina; grandchildren Mark Whalen; Rachel Whalen and Slade Aliff;  step children and spouses Jeff  and Susan Bedwell; Pam and E.J. Carico; grandchildren and spouse Emily Carico; Travis Bedwell; Tara and Tyson Nero;  great-grandchildren Alina; Colton and Brooks.

A graveside service will be held Thursday in the Felts Memorial Cemetery at 10:30 AM with Pastor Jeff Bedwell officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request donations be made to the Twin County Humane Society,  111 East Grayson Street, Galax, Virginia 24333.
