Obituary

Rev. Charles Kenley Ward of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away May 28, 2009 at St. Mary's Residential Hospice in Knoxville, Tn.. Rev Ward was born March 31,1922 in the Oakland Community near Galax, Virginia. He was a retired United Methodist Minister of the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church, serving from 1949 to 1988. Appointments were: Athens Parish, Athens, Tn.; Wildwood Circuit, Wildwood, Ga.: Parrottsville, Parrottsville, Tn.; First Church, Bulls Gap, Tn.;Big Spring, Cleveland, Tn.; Fairview and Middle Valley; Hixson, Tn.; Kingsley, Kingsport, Tn.; and New Tazewell, Tn.. In retiremenet he attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Knoxville, Tn. A World War II veteran, his service was in the U.S. Army's 102nd Infantry Division in France and Germany, doing occupation duty in Germany after the armistice.He was preceded in death by parents Joseph Kenley and Rosamond Higgins Ward, sister, Ethel Ward Leagan,and by first wife Euna Lee Murphy Ward. Survivors are wife Narmel Reneau Ward of Knoxville,Tn.; daughters & son-in-law Edmonia Ward Bible and James of Tusculum, Tn.; Barbara Ward Geitner of Knoxville, Tn.; son & daughter-in-law Richard Ward and Pamela of Knoxville, Tn.; step-daughter Judy Reneau Collings and husband Lloyd of Kingsport Tn.; step-sons & spouses Dennis & Phyllis Reneau of King, N.C.; David & Marianne Reneau of Sanford,N.C.; grandchildren Clint Bible of Kingsport, Tn.; Esther Bible Stewart and husband Clayton, of Broken Arrow, Ok.; Rebekah Geitner of Knoxville, Tn.; Erik Geitner of San Diego, Ca.; step-grandchildren Amy Collings Jackson of Clarksville, Tn.; Tonya Reneau VanHoy of Rural Hall, N.C.; Charles Collings and wife Mary of King George, Va.; step-great grandchildren Coty Hamby of Clarksville,Tn.; Claire and Emmitt Collings of King George, Va.; sisters Pauline Ward Robinson of Salem, Va.; Betty Ward Perdue of Galax, Va.; Hattie Ward Collins and husband Pierce of Galax, Va.. The family will receive family and friends Saturday, May 30, 2009 from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Weaver Funeral Home on Western Avenue Knoxville, Tn. with service to follow. Rev. Don Thomas, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church will be officiating. The body will be transported to the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home in Galax, Va..Visitation time there will be 5-7 pm Sunday, May 31, 2009. Graveside service will be at 10:00 am Monday, June 1, 2009 at Oakland United Methodist Church Cemetery with pastor Rev. John Ousley officiating. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in Knoxville, Tn., Oakland United Methodist Church, Galax, Va. or to the charity of the donors choice.
