Charles Thomas "Tommy" Dotson age 80 of Calabash, North Carolina and formerly of Galax, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 in the Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center in Bolivia, North Carolina.

Mr. Dotson was born in Galax, Virginia on September 2, 1935 to John Price and Anna Allene "Patsy" Stoneman Dotson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Janet Schuyler Dotson.

He is survived by his daughters and their fiancé Kathy Dotson Johnson and Dale Huggins of Florence, South Carolina; Hope Elaine Dotson and Tommy Sparks of Calabash, North Carolina; grandchildren and spouses Rebekka Johnson Taylor and Matt; Aaron Thomas Johnson and Victoria; great-grandchildren Matthew Taylor; Jackson Taylor and Cade Johnson; sister and brother-in-law Anita Dotson Padgett and Kenneth of Galax, Virginia; two nephews.

He served in the US Air Force 23 years retiring at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He did 3 tours in Vietnam. He traveled and moved throughout the US and overseas bases.

After retiring from the military he attended Horry-Georgetown for Criminal Justice. After graduation he attended the Police Academy in Columbia, South Carolina. He was a Police Officer in Conway, South Carolina and later became Chief of Police in Briar Cliff, South Carolina.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Bishops Chapel Church. Burial will follow in the Bishops Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 PM until time for the funeral service at the Bishops Chapel Church. Military Rites will be conducted by the Grayson VFW Post 7726.

He loved his family very much. He enjoyed woodwork, golfing, fishing, bowling, Nascar and the Clemson Tigers.
