Charles Roger Sumner age 74 of Galax, Virginia passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016 in the Twin County Regional Hospital.

Roger was born on August 16, 1942 to Sterling and Alice Newman Sumner. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Jimmy Sumner and his son-in-law Darrell Mitchell.

He is survived by his wife Peggy Shaw Sumner of Galax, Virginia; daughter and her fiancee' Lisa Mitchell and Ramon Wix of Raleigh, North Carolina; daughter Carmen Sumner of Lincolnton, North Carolina; son Brad Sumner and Sam Witherspoon of Decatur, Georgia; two grandchildren Charlie Mitchell and Molly Mitchell; a very special cousin Catie Patton; one niece and one nephew.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 7:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Marvin Williams, Carroll Lineberry and Steve McCollum officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 PM until time for the service at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. The family request in lieu of flowers donations be made to either the
