Charles Pierce Collins age 88 of Galax, Virginia passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013 in the North Carolina Baptist Hospital.

Mr. Collins was born on April 4, 1924 in Carroll County, Virginia to Mahlon R. and Callie Snow Collins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Dennis Mahlon Collins.

Mr. Collins proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife Hattie Ward Collins of Galax, Virginia; daughters and sons-in-law Clysta Collins Walters of Orange, Virginia; Kali Collins and Michael Pafford of College Park, Maryland; Bonese and Michael Harris of Blacksburg, Virginia; sons and daughters-in-law Terry and Barbara Collins of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Charles P. Collins II and Annette of Pipers Gap, Virginia; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Oakland United Methodist Church with Rev. Sharon Wright and Rev. Daryl Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery with Military Rites by the Hillsville VFW Post 1115. The body will lie-in-state one hour prior the funeral service. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Oakland United Methodist Church.
