Carroll Monroe Sumner age 81 of Galax, Virginia passed away Monday, April 29, 2024 at his home.

Mr. Sumner was born in Galax, Virginia on December 4, 1942 to Claude Monroe and Alta Clementine Horton Sumner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter Lela Grace Cox and a sister Josephine Wyatt.

He is survived by his wife Shirley Bowers Sumner of Galax, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law Wayne and Cindy Sumner of Boston, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Sid Cox of Galax, Virginia; grandchildren and spouses Courtney and Evan Nester; Jared and Megan Cox; Ethan Sumner; great-grandchildren Nash Cox; Bodie Nester and Kenzie Cox; sister and brother-in-law Linda and James Smythers of Hillsville, Virginia; brother-in-law Wade Wyatt of Newport News, Virginia.

The funeral service will be held Thursday at 1:00 PM in the Calvary Church of Christ with Pastor Johnny Young and the Rev. Don Sizemore officiating.  Burial will follow in the Felts Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:00 PM until time for the funeral service at the Calvary Church of Christ.
