Carroll Dean Lanter, 71, of Galax, VA passed away Wednesday in the Grayson Nursing and Rehab Center,Independence, VA.
Mr. Lanter was born in Grayson County, Virginia September 15, 1935 to Raymond Preston and Virginia Ruth Tomlinson Lanter. Mr. Lanter was of the Baptist faith and retired at Salisbury, NC as Chief of Building Management at the Hefner VA Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Witcher Lanter of the home, 2 daughters and 1 son-in-law: Cara & Bill Hamm of Port Deposit, MD, Kimberly Lanter of Faith, NC; two sons and daughters-in-law: Robbie & Tammy Lanter of Verona, Il; Edward & Rose Lanter of Salisbury, NC; five grandchildren: Shane, Joshua, Dillon, Jennifer, Josie; one great grandson Caleb; a brother & sister-in-law: Kenneth and Carolyn Lanter of Swannanoa, NC; one nephew Loren Lanter; several cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home in Galax on Saturday evening from 7 until 9 pm. A graveside service will be held Sunday, July 1 at 2:00 PM at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery, Fries, VA with the Rev. Robert Lanter, Jr. officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Hillsville VFW Post 1115. Flowers will be appreciated or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
