Carlos Lafon Payne, 77, of Galax passed away Thursday, January 22, 2009, in the Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax. Mr. Payne was born May 17, 1931 in Carroll County Virginia to Wilbur & Odessa Hawks Payne. Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his father Wilbur Payne and wife Barbara Joann Payne.

He is survived by daughter & son-in-law: Tammy R. Meadows & Danny of State Road, NC; mother Odessa Payne of Galax; sister & brother-in-law: Kathy Cooley-Akers & Johnny; brothers & sister-in-law: H. K. Payne, Dean & Norma Payne all of Galax. One grandson & wife: Carlos Jason Penley & Amy, two great grandchildren: Haleigh & Hunter Penley as well as several nieces & nephews also survive.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 1:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Dr. John Matthews, Rev.Gary Wilson, & Rev. Camet Spivey officiating. Burial will follow in the Hickman Cemetery, Radford, Virginia with military rites conducted by Radford VFW #776. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 until 9 PM at Vaughan-Guynn.
