Buford Clayton Wilson, age 87 of Galax, Virginia passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024 ,in the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Buford was born in Galax, Virginia on July 2, 1936, to Charles Clayton and Emma Henrietta McKenzie Wilson.

He graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1953. He attended Bluefield Business College and then returned to Galax. As a craftsman and businessman, he worked for the Joines Body Company as foreman and later worked at Vaughan Furniture Company in the cabinet room.

Iin retirement, Buford helped found the Grayson Heritage Society and researched local cemeteries for the Tombstone Project and the Gen Web. He also managed the McKenzie Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Mildred Isom Wilson and his daughter Dedra Pentecost and her husband Dr. Paul Pentecost of Roanoke.

The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home in Galax, Monday from 11:00 AM until time for the funeral service at 12:00 PM. Services will be conducted by Pastor Dina Clower. The burial will follow in McKenzie Cemetery.
