Blanche Reavis Rector, 89, of Fancy Gap, Va., passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2011 in Waddell Nursing Home.

Mrs. Rector was born in the Reavistown community of Grayson County, Va., on Feb. 5, 1922 to Bruce and Maude Phillips Reavis. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Rupert Rector; sister Georgia Reavis Rhudy amd brothers William and Edward Reavis.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia Rector and Charles Hill of Beverly Hills, Mich.; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Sharon Rector of High Point, N.C.; grandsons Zachary Hill and Logan Rector; sisters and brothers-in-law Vera Edmonds of Woodlawn, Va.; Betty Mae and Tom Delp; Jean Jones;; Cora Belle and Lloyd Diamond all of Galax, Va.; brothers and sisters-in-law Hardin and Rachel Reavis; Warren and Mary Reavis, all of Galax, Va. and several nieces and nephews.

After her mother's death when she was three years old, she was raised by her beloved aunt and uncle, Pearl and Fred Phillips in Reavistown.

She graduated from Galax High School and married Rupert Rector of Fancy Gap in 1949. She was a longtime trustee of the Good Hope Cemetery and a member of the Freedom Baptist Church, both in Fancy Gap.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 3:00 PM in Freedom Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Bunn officiating. Burial will follow in Good Hope Cemetery beside her beloved husband, Rupert. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
