Obituary

Beulah Mae Crockett Youngblood, age 97, of Fries, Va. went to be with the Lord
on December 2, 2013, having passed away while in Golden Living Center Nursing Home in Galax, VA.
She was born in Cripple Creek, VA. on November 20, 1916 and was the daughter
of the late James David and Ida Summers Johnson Crockett. She was the youngest of 16
children (13 living to adulthood).

Beulah was saved at age 13 at Crockett's Chapel Methodist Church and was a
faithful Christian all her life. She worked as a forelady in the Wytheville Knitting Mills
until the end of WWII. God kept her sweetheart, Norris Julian Youngblood, safe through
the war and he returned on October 21, 1945, after spending 4 years overseas. They were
wed on October 25, 1945 and made their home in Fries. Beulah was an active member of
Mt. Hope Methodist Church from the time of her marriage until going to Golden Living
Center Nursing Home at age 91. She taught the Nursery/Kindergarten Class at the
church for over 25 years and was an officer and active member in the United Methodist Women.
Until she went to the nursing home, it was her job to send all the cards and to
purchase and deliver gifts and fruit baskets from the Adult Sunday School Class to those
who were sick, bereaved, or in the hospital. She loved encouraging people and being
kind to them so she enjoyed this very much.

Beulah always loved school and excelled in all her subjects. She also loved sports
and was a star basketball player at her Cripple Creek School. She was a stand-out
forward and because of her scoring abilities, their school beat all the other schools in
Wythe County. Because she was a big proponent of education, she helped with bake
sales, hot dog sales, and other fundraisers to make money for needed equipment for the
"then" new Vaughan School. She was P.T.A. President for a number of years. After her
children were in school, she became a Teacher's Aide in the Carroll County School
System for 26 years, until her retirement at age 75. She dearly loved the students and
they loved her! She received her Associates Degree from Wytheville Community
College at age 60 in 1976. She received an additional year or so of college by taking
Classes through UVA and Radford University.

Beulah was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt,
and friend. She was optimistic and her joy was contagious. The source of her love and
joy was her relationship with Jesus Christ. She loved gardening, her flowers, canning
and preserving food, sewing and quilting, sports and exercise (took water exercise at the
Galax Rec. Center for 13 years, until age 91), picnicking, hiking, and cooking. She was a
"Good Samaritan" to everyone in her community . She was loved by all her family and
all who knew her.

Beulah lived a full and rewarding life. She remained in her own home until age
91, at which time she lived with family until further falls necessitated more therapy at
Golden Living Center, where she decided to stay. She enjoyed her life at the nursing
home and stayed involved in the activities there. She loved her fellow residents and so
appreciated all the staff. She loved feeling that she was a help and encouragement to
others at the nursing home. She was a role model to all who knew her. She lived a
dedicated Christian life and was such a blessing and joy to all her family. As Proverbs
31:28 says " Her children arise up and call her blessed."

The family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. Tate Rogers and the wonderful
staff at Golden Living Center, who showed her so much love, respect, and care. Special
thanks are given to her Mt. Hope family and all her many friends who continued visiting
her and sending cards and gifts to show their love. A special thanks to the Vaughan-
Guynn Funeral Home and staff for their kind services and support. The family would
also like to thank Rev. Larry Linkous and Rev. Robert Adams for their kindness to
her and their loving words and prayers.
