Obituary

Betty Hawks, 92, of Fries, Virginia, peacefully departed this world on Monday, March 17, 2025, at the Grayson Rehabilitation Center and now is at rest in the arms of Jesus in Heaven.

She was born to Mrs. Virginia Ellen Carrico Caudell in Fries on January 26, 1933. She was a graduate of Fries High School and was a hard-working and loyal employee at the Fries "Cotton Mill" and later at Hanes Corporation/Sara Lee Knit Products. She was a lifelong Fries Wildcat and a member of Providence and later Fries United Methodist Church who loved her family, her church family, gardening, and in her youth/young adulthood, playing basketball and bowling. In her retirement, she was able to travel to many places, including Brandon, MO; Niagara Falls, Canada, Boston, MA; Battle Creek, MI; Chicago, IL; Atlanta, GA; Washington, DC; and various places in Maine.

In addition to her mother, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of over 46 years, Edgar P. Hawks and brothers Willard Eugene "Sonny" Caudell and Raymond "Phipps" Caudell and an infant brother. She was also predeceased by a special cousin and classmate, Patsy Bedwell.

Betty leaves many family members and friends to cherish her memory; her children Kathy Hawks Davis of Fries; and Karen Hawks Haase and Matt of Charlotte, NC; and Alan "Hawkeye" and Rita Hawks of Galax, VA; Bill Davis of Fries, VA. Grandchildren Brad Hawks and Mallory of Galax, VA; Brandon Davis and Paola Barrios of Fries, VA; and Kristen Davis of Fries, VA. Great-grandchildren, Rylee and Emmy Hawks, Aubree and John Meek, Mia Davis, and soon-to-be Lainey Davis (Kristen). Also surviving is her brother, David "Chub" Caudell and sister-in-law Pat Caudell. Nieces and nephews also survive, including Jeff Caudell, Candy Johnson, and special niece Nancy Woodard and family. Special friends Delores Graham and Dawn Patton; special Grandbunny Miracle Haase .

The service will be held Friday at 2:00 PM at Fries United Methodist Church with burial in the Fries Cemetery. Pastor Mary Hessler will conduct the service. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 PM until time for the funeral service at the Fries United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Fries Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad in memory of Betty.
