Betty J. Goodson, 79, of Galax passed away Monday, July 18, 2016 at Twin County Regional Hospital. Mrs. Goodson was born April 16, 1937 in Carroll County to the late William Lawrence Combs and Emma Hanks Combs. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Sterling Goodson, sister Opal Branscome and brother William Lawrence Combs, Jr.

Mrs. Goodson is survived by two daughters and son-in-law: Melanie & Michael Bishop and Stephanie Goodson, two sons Sterling Goodson and Stephen Goodson, all of Galax, Virginia. Special granddaughter Kayla Goodson, special grandson Cody Burcham , grandson Bobby Wall, great grandson Joshua Coe-Burcham, two sisters Rubye Cockerham of Galax, Virginia and Hilda Windle of Naples, Florida also survive along with several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 21, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Oakland Cemetery with Rev. Richard Gregory officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
