Betty Wingate Chew, 80, of Roanoke, VA. , peacefully left this earth on Friday, October 12, 2018.

She was the daughter of the late Muncy T. and Nell C. Wingate of Fries, Virginia. Ms. Chew was also preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Wingate Weddle and Peggy Wingate Prillaman; and a twin brother, Billy G. Wingate.

She is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Wingate Branscome and her husband, Russell of Galax, Virginia, and Rosemary Wingate Humphrey and her husband, Ryland of Kernersville, North Carolina; a brother, Ralph T. Wingate of Galax, Virginia and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty graduated from Fries High School in 1956 and received her RN in 1959 From Virginia Baptist School of Nursing in Lynchburg, Virginia. She spent her professional life caring for others as a nurse and retired in 1999 from the VA Hospital in Martinsburg, West Virginia Her remaining years were spent in Roanoke and Martinsville, Virginia, where she continued to be very active both church and community organizations.

The family would like to express our sincere appreciation for thanks for the loving care provided to Betty by the nurses and staff of Friendship Health and Rehab South and Good Samaritan Hospice of Roanoke, Virginia.

Family visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Oakey's South Chapel followed by a Memorial Service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Anne Sisson officiating.
