Bertha Leona Goodson Burcham, 97, of Galax, Virginia passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Waddell Nursing Home. She was born May 27, 1919 in Carroll County, Virginia to Early and Susan Dotson Goodson. She was preceded in death by her husband Dennie C. Burcham; her parents; a brother, Vernie Goodson, a sister Evie Goodson Carico; and special nieces, Frances Carico Carmen and Joyce Bryant Carson.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Leonard O. Burcham (Betty); daughters, Wanda Burcham Foushee (Marvin), and Marlene Burcham Franklin (Doug); grandchildren, Mark Burcham, Ginny Burcham Miilu, Clif Burcham, Rebecca Foushee Hennessy, Wendy Foushee Worrell, Marcy Foushee Vaughan, and Benjamin Porterfield, great-grandchildren, Jenna Miilu, Cody Miilu, Adam Burcham, Carter Burcham, Clint Vaughan; Katie Vaughan; Caleb Vaughan, Bryant Worrell, Bryson Worrell and Vincent Porterfield; several nieces and nephews.

Leona was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed being the third generation to live on the farm in the Coleman community. She loved nothing more than cooking for her family and watching sunsets from her sun porch. She was a life-long member of the Fairlawn Church of Christ.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the loving, caring staff and medical team of Waddell Nursing Home.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, August 14, 2016 at 3:00PM in the Fairlawn Church of Christ. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 PM until time for the funeral service at the Fairlawn Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
