Bertha Mae Bullins Akers age 89 of Galax, Virginia passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Waddell Nursing Home. Mrs. Akers was born in Smyth County, Virginia on May 14,1919 to Steve & Willie Elizabeth Pinion Bullins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter Estellene Akers Slate and two sons Herman Wayne Akers and Junior Akers. She is survived by her husband of sixty-nine years Estelle Gordon Akers of Galax, Va.; daughters Nancy Akers & Joyce Akers Isom both of Galax, Va.; Wanda Akers Jones of Winston-Salem, N.C.; sons Harold G. Akers of Galax, Va.; H. Roger Akers of Woodlawn, Va.; Danny R. Akers of Pilot Mountain, N.C; thirteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews. The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 2:00 pm in Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Rodney Christman and Rev. Bob Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Galax City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from seven until nine at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
