Bernard Campbell Wampler, 86, of Pulaski, Virginia and La Quinta, California died peacefully on Thursday, September 6, 2018. He was affectionately known to many of his family and friends as "Bunny."
He is survived by his children Sarah H. Wampler of Lilburn, Georgia; Bernard C. Wampler, Jr. of Martinsville, Virginia; John G. Wampler of La Quinta, California; Lucille W. Niessen of Nairobi, Kenya and their partner and spouses Lauren Moore, Kimberley Wampler and Jerome Niessen. He is also survived by five grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews and his beloved companion and friend Carol Morris of Galax, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Sue Scott Wampler who died in infancy. His parents Wythe and Agnes Mae Wampler resided in Galax where he was born on November 12, 1931.
He graduated from the Furniture Manufacturing and Management Center, College of Engineering at N.C. State. He was the retired Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Pulaski Furniture Corporation. He always made Pulaski Furniture his primary professional focus, but he also served on numerous corporate boards and executive committees for associations, health institutions and academic institutions. He enjoyed in particular his time on the Board of Directors of NationsBank Corporation, The American Furniture Manufacturers Association, The Virginia Manufacturers Association and The International Home Furnishings Center. He also valued his service on the Virginia-Israel Commission and as a Member of the Board of Visitors at Radford University where he was the Rector from 1994 to 1995.
There will be a graveside service at Felts Memorial Cemetery at
Glendale Road (Route 887), Galax, Virginia 24333
at
11:00 AM
on
Tuesday, September 18
which will be followed by a celebratory lunch at the Creekside Brewing Company Restaurant.
