Obituary

Berlie Lee Carico age 84 of Galax, Virginia passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at his home.

Mr. Carico was born in Carroll County, Virginia on November 1, 1927 to Charlie Mattison and Bessie Erma Dickerson Carico. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Stevie Willard Carico, a sister Jessie Amburn and three brothers James, Earon and Dean Carico.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Elsie Faye Kirby Carico of Galax, Virginia; children Danny Lee Carico; Gina Carico Isom and husband Ron all of Galax, Virginia; Stanley Todd Carico of Wytheville, Virginia; three grandchildren Tony Isom and wife Chantel; Deanna Burgess and husband Larry all of Galax, Virginia; Dustin Carico and wife Samantha of Pulaski, Virginia; great-grandchildren Kristen Stesen, Ashley Stesen, Leland Carico, Audrey Carico and our precious baby that will come in May to Tony and Chantel; sister Jo Melton; brother and sister-in-law Warren D. and Jessie Carico all of Galax, Virginia; sisters-in-law Anna Lee Carico of Ennice, North Carolina; Guida Carico of Woodlawn, Virginia; several nieces and nephews.

Berlie lived in Carroll County, Virginia his entire life. He grew up on a farm near the Blue Ridge Parkway. He recalled to his children that he remembered when the first lights and phones came to the mountain and he also had lived long enough to see the first man walk on the moon.He saw many changes in his life but was blessed to grow up with a loving mother and father, four brothers and two sisters. A family that always took care of each other and loved each other. Berlie had a saw mill in his younger life and many people knew him from selling cars at White Chevrolet in Galax as their used car manager for 18 years and then selling cars at Mink-Pontiac-Buick. Berlie loved his wife, his children, his church, community and his country.He believed in his Almighty Creator and he believed in being fair and honest.

He was a son, a husband, a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, a brother, a neighbor, a friend and a man who respected the amazing world his Great God created. He was loved and respected by many. God granted him a rich and full life and he leaves his legacy behind in his family, friends and community.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 3:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Wendell Horton, Rev. Elmon Thompson and Rev. Dewey Felts officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 PM until time for the funeral service at the funeral home.

Dad you will always be remembered and loved. We know you are now with angels and are in beauty we cannot imagine. We know we will be with you again and oh how joyful that day will be.
