Benjamin (Benny) Milton Martin, 77, of Galax was welcomed home by his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 01, 2020.   Benny was blessed with a host of family and friends, who will forevermore recall his kind demeanor and his willingness to always lend a helping hand. With over 40 years committed to the trucking industry, Benny enjoyed a fulfilling career behind the wheel. Everyone that knew him, knew that he was an avid NASCAR enthusiast with a special admiration for Dale Earnhardt. Benny was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Forrest Martin, along with two bothers, one sister, several cousins, and many dear friends.

Surviving Benny is his loving wife of 57 years Mary Dixon Martin. Two daughters: Renee Bobbitt and fiancé Eric Isom of Woodlawn, Gail Quesenberry and husband Chris of Salem, VA. One son, Allen Martin and wife Missy of Galax. Six grandchildren: Shelley Carpenter and husband Michael of Pilot Mountain, Madison Martin, Payton Martin, Sierra Byrd, Kelson Isom and Kaden Isom all of Galax. Two great-grandchildren: Grant and Madi Carpenter of Pilot Mountain. One sister, Wilma Waller of Woodlawn. Several dear nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors survive. The family extends a sincere thank you to three special friends and caregivers: Dr. Cameron Gillespie, Julie Horton and Neena Wiles. Additionally, the family would like to say thank you to everyone for the bountiful blessings that you all have displayed for Benny and our family.

In lieu of flowers, Benny requested memorial contributions that support our local community. Two local organizations that were near and dear to Benny are Backpack Buddies, which helps feed local school children, and the Galax Police Department to help fund the purchase of a new K9.  Contributions for Backpack Buddies may be sent to: Backpack Buddies - P.O. The funeral service will be held Monday, February 03, 2020 at 3:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. Ben Haga, the Rev. Tim Smith and Dr. Cameron Gillespie officiating. Burial will follow in the McKenzie Cemetery. The family will welcome friends Monday from 1:00 PM until time for the funeral service at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
