Obituary

Barbara Ann Turba of Verona, PA passed away on May 15, 2019, from complications caused by endometrial cancer at the age of 85. Barb was born in Verona, PA on April 29, 1934, the daughter of Mary Zelinski who immigrated from Slovakia and Stanley Turba who immigrated from Lithuania. Barb lived most of her life in the same home where she was born.

Barb had a calling to serve God, and starting in 1954 she served for eight years as a nun with the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth in Bellevue, PA. As a nun she served in Michigan, Rome, Italy, and Pennsylvania. Upon realizing that she wanted to serve God in other ways, she left the church, becoming a born-again Christian. She served various churches wanting to dedicate her life to the spreading of the Gospel of Christ. While working at the University of Pittsburgh's Katz Graduate School of Business, Barb was instrumental in helping with the creation of the International Christian University, located in the city of Kinshasa in the Republic of The Congo. She was honored for her tireless efforts by having the university's library named after her. Barb also had a heart for evangelism and wrote and published a book, called 'Fast Track to God', which she wrote to help people in today's rushed and hurried world to find Christ quickly and readily.

In her later years, Barb spent her time with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. Barb learned that she had cancer in 2012. Undaunted, she trusted in God for her healing. Even when it became apparent that healing was not coming, she continued to trust in God, never doubting the promise of salvation. She passed away peacefully, simply closing her eyes for one last time.

Barb is survived by her daughter, Barbara Anne Marie (Turba) Parker and husband, 7 grandchildren, her sister Mary Ellen (Turba) Robinson, and various nieces and nephews.
