On Thursday July 4, 2024 our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Barbara Burnett Thompson went to be with the Lord.

Barbara was born to R. Fred Burnett and Virginia Elizabeth "Lizzy" Reynolds Burnett of Woodlawn, VA.

When Barbara was younger, her favorite activity was playing with her older siblings Gene, Claude, and Betty Jo. Barbara attended Woodlawn School for high school and later earned her nursing degree. After graduating, Barbara spent her career as an LPN at Twin County Regional Hospital. In 1966, Barbara married Richard "Dickie" Thompson, and went on to have three sons whom she cherished throughout her life.

Barbara was a loyal servant to God, first and foremost. She loved attending Woodlawn United Methodist Church and loved sharing the love and warmth of our savior, Jesus Christ, with as many people as possible.

Barbara joins her husband Dickie, her parents Fred and Lizzy, her son Chris, and siblings Gene Burnette,  Claude Burnette, and Betty Jo Grubb in Heaven.

Barbara is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law Shawn and Kristy Thompson of Galax, VA, and Neal and Cris Thompson of Dublin, VA. Five grandchildren Anthony (Jade) Thompson, Ryan (Kayla) Thompson, Isaac Thompson, Ava Thompson and Avery Thompson also survive. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren Caraline Thompson and Audrey Kay Thompson.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at  2:00 PM at Camp Zion Cemetery in Galax, with the Reverend Dina Clower officiating.  Flowers are appreciated or in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Woodlawn United Methodist Church Building Fund, 748 Woodlawn Rd., Woodlawn, VA 24381. The family will be at the residence, where friends and family may visit anytime.
