Barbara Leonard Smith, 79, of Galax, Virginia passed away Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Galax Nursing and Rehab Center.

Barbara was born in Carroll County, Virginia on August 26, 1939 to the late Glenn Robert and Nora Lee Payne Leonard. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by husband James C. Smith Sr., grandson Robert Steven Smith, sister Carolyn Leonard Lundy, and brother Robert Glenn Leonard.

Barbara is survived by daughter and son-in-law Diane and Jeff Leath of Galax, Virginia; sons and daughters-in-law James C. Smith Jr. and Patricia of Peachtree City, Georgia and Glen Smith and Carol of Galax, Virginia; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sister Judy Mitchell of Piney Creek, North Carolina; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Monday at 5:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Jeff Lundy officiating. Burial will follow at Felts Cemetery in Galax, Virginia. The family will receive friends Monday from 4:00 PM until time for the funeral service at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.


The family will gather Sunday evening to remember Barbara at the home of Glen and Carol Smith at 374 Quail Ridge Ct in Galax.
