Barbara Jean Hanks McKenzie age 72 of Galax, Va. passed away Sunday,May 17, 2009 in Grayson Nursing & Rehab Center. She was born on September 5, 1936 in Carroll County, Virginia to Roy F. & Linnie Pauline Farmer Hanks. She is survived by her daughter Terri Lynn McKenzie of Richmond, Va.; sons & daughters-in-law Barry & Kimberly McKenzie of Salisbury, N.C.; Joel & Gayle McKenzie of Stevens City, Va.; father of the children Charles McKenzie of Low Gap, N.C.; sisters & brothers-in-law Emily & George Wright of Galax, Va.; Darlene Hanks of Moorehead City, N.C.; Beverly & Frank Frederick of Alexandria, Va.; brothers & sisters-in-law Billy & Bev Hanks, David & Kathe Hanks and Charles Hanks all of Galax, Va.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces & nephews. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 2:30 pm in the Forest Oak Cemetery with Rev. Charles Moretz officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:00 until 2:00 pm at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to The American Cancer Society.
