Barbara Jean Howard's Obituary
Barbara Jean Howard, of Gastonia, NC, died on May 3, 2020 at the age of 70. She was the daughter of the late David Stuart and Emmer Margaret Howard. She was born in Newark, NJ on January 6, 1950 and resided in Roanoke, VA, Independence, VA, Galax, VA, and most recently Gastonia, NC. She is survived by her daughter, Amanda Smith of Gastonia, NC, one son, John David Howard of Charlotte, NC, and nephew Andrew Howard of Clover, SC. Barbara had two sisters, Sharmane Howard of Gastonia, NC, and the late Lisa Jean Howard. Barbara had several grandchildren whom she loved dearly: Hillary "Munchkin" Johnson, Zoey "Sweetie Pie" Howard, Selah "Honey Bun" Smith, Skye "Butterscotch" Howard, Seth "Musketeer" Smith, Audri Jean "Juicy Fruit" Howard, Luke "Honey Mustard" Smith, and one grand niece and grand nephew, Easton "Gummy Bear" Howard, and Pearce "Marshmallow" Howard.
Barbara is survived by two close aunts, Paris Phipps and Hazel McMillan, and two godmothers, Margaret Reeves and the late Kay Gentry.
Barbara was a member of Church of God in Christ in Roanoke, VA, Gospel Temple Church in Independence, VA, and most recently Tabernacle Baptist Church in Gastonia, NC.
Barbara loved fashion shows and was known for her extravagant clothing outfits, flashy jewelry, and outlandish hats. Barbara loved reminiscing about her childhood, her two cats (Fuzzy Wuzzy and Nozy), and could talk for hours about all the church activities and school activities she experienced with her children, Amanda and John David
Celebration of life service will be held Saturday May 9th at 2pm Oak Grove Cemetery, Bridle Creek VA. Bishop Charles Millner officiating
