Audrey Celene Patton Shumate age 81 of Galax, Virginia passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at her home.

Mrs. Shumate was born on July 29, 1944 in Grayson County, Virginia to James Bolen and Blanche Lavinia Jennings Patton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Glen Roy Shumate; sisters Virginia Andrews and Janet Hackler; brother J.B. Patton, Jr.

She is survived by two daughters Rebecca Rector of Galax, Virginia; Regina Rector of Dupont, Washington; sister Barbara  Kyle of Galax, Virginia; sister-in-law Wanda Byrd; brother-in-law Harold Shumate; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private graveside service will be held and there will be no visitation at the funeral home.
