Arvil Ray Johnson, 52 years of age, of Paynesville, West Virginia passed away Thursday, October 6, 2011 at his residence following an extended illness. Born in Elton, Maryland June 18, 1959 he was the son of Betty Lou Johnson Blankenship of Galax, VA.
Arvil enjoyed going to car shows and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed to work as a mechanic and a carpenter.
Arvil is preceded in death by 3 grandchildren; Keith Edward Sweeney Jr., Brandon Lee Sweeney, and Angel Sweeney; maternal grandmother, Lou Blankenship.
He is survived by his mother Betty Lou Johnson Blankenship and husband Russell of Galax, VA; loving wife of 33 years, Kathryn Roberts Johnson of Paynesville, WV, two daughters; Amy Marie Viars and husband Roy Ray of Grundy, VA, Michele Lynn Sweeney and husband Keith Edward of Paynesville, WV, one sister; Betty Hagerman of Paynesville, WV, 4 brothers; James Johnson of Galax, VA, Charles Johnson of Paynesville, WV, Garland Johnson of Galax, VA, Jessie Lee Blankenship of Galax, VA; special uncles; Ersel Blankenship II of Paynesville, WV, Everett Blankenship of Paynesville, WV, Ira Allen of Grundy, VA, John Blankenship of Paynesville, WV, Jessie Mitchell of Paynesville, WV; spicial aunts, Rose Mary Lester of Paynesville, WV, Judy Blankenship of Paynesville, WV, Florence Stacy of KY, Elsie Matney of Panther, WV and his grandfather, Ersel Blankenship and wife Florence of Grundy, VA.
He was also survived by 3 grandchildren; Anthony Viars, Garrett Viars, Jamie Lynn Charels.
Funeral services for Arvil Ray Johnson will be conducted Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 1:00pm at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel Grundy, VA with Sister Nancy Blevins and Sister Phillis Rowe officiating. Burial will follow in the Sweeney Cemetery on State Line Ridge number 1, Paynesville, WV.
Family and Friends will serve as active pallbearers.
The family of Arvil Ray Johnson will receive friends at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home of Grundy, VA on Saturday, October 8, 2011 after 6:00 pm with evening services starting at 7:00.
