Andrew (Andy) Robert Messner age 60 of Christiansburg, Virginia passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at his home.

Andy was born in Niles, Michigan on August 30, 1958 to James Robert and Patricia Olinghouse Messner.

He was a 1980 graduate of Virginia Tech and married Kim Costello on May 11, 1985. He was a twenty-three year member of the Twin County United Way Board of Directors. He was a member of the Galax Presbyterian Church and served a two year term as a Deacon and was the Chairman of the Board of Deacons  and a one year term as an Elder of the church. He served a two year term as a member of the Galax City School Board. He was plant manager at the Hanes Plant in Galax, Virginia, Director of Operations, True Textiles in Elkin, North Carolina and Lead Quality Engineer, Federal Mogul in Christiansburg, Virginia.

He truly enjoyed doing nice things for people; two such examples are decorating envelopes for birthday cards with bright colors and taking pictures at parties, weddings, celebrations, and making photo albums for the families.

In addition to his parents James Robert and Patricia Olinghouse Messner of Harrisonburg, Virginia he is survived by his wife Kim Messner of Christiansburg, Virginia; sons Chris Messner and special friend Lauren Townsend of Richmond, Virginia; Patrick Messner of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; sister and brother-in-law Amy and Matt Heffernan of Spartanburg, South Carolina; brother and sister-in-law Tom and Lisa Messner of Ashburn, Virginia; father-in-law and mother-in-law Ed and Bev Costello  of Stephens City, Virginia; sisters-in-law and spouse Kelly Costello of Crozet, Virginia; Kris and Marshall Miller of Kingsport, Tennessee; Megan and Doug McCarthy of Winchester, Virginia;  brother-in-law and wife Dan and Val Costello of Ponte Vedra, Florida;  several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 2:00 PM in the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church with Dr. Don Makin officiating. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request donations be made to the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund , 107 West Main Street, Christiansburg, Virginia 24073
