Mrs. Allen Bowman Lyons, age 90, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2012 in the Waddell Nursing Home and Rehab, Galax, VA. Mrs. Lyons was born August 20, 1921 in Grayson County, Virginia to Curtis Lafayette and Lena Martin Bowman. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Dale Lyons and sons Cody Allen Lyons and Charles (Butch) Lyons.

Mrs. Lyons was a faithful member of the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, Fries, Virginia serving as Sunday School Teacher and Youth Leader for many years. She was also a member of the Grayson County Home Extension and Fries Garden Club. She greatly enjoyed flowers, birds and handwork. Allen traveled extensively visiting many of our National Parks and took two trips to the Holy Land. She was well thought of in the community. She and her late husband Dale ran a grocery store and were very generous to many of the community in their times of need.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Don and Carolyn Lyons of Fries, five sisters Opal Bowman, Ruby Burcham, Ruth Warf and Mildred Ring, all of Fries; Carol Ball and husband Robert of Melbourne,Florida; three grandchildren: Symitha Davis, Jeanie Brooks & husband Terry, Lora Lyons, two great grandchildren Ivory Davis and Merritt Brooks. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service will be held Friday, February 17, 2012 at 4:00 PM in the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Smith and Bonnie Warf Russell officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
