Alice Elizabeth Padgett age 96 of Galax, Va. passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2006 in Waddell Nursing Home. She was born on June 20, 1910 in West Virginia to Isaac Clingham and Sara Spencer Stewart. In addition her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Whitfield Padgett, a daughter, Wilma Burnette and a grandson, Brad Hill. She is survived by her children and their spouse, Mary Ruth & Gordon Bryant, Alice & Harold Hill, all of Galax, Va.; Wanda & Joe Lineberry; Dorothy & Ivan Robinson, Brenda & Gary Hill all of Woodlawn, Va.; Faye Calfee of Glen Alen, Va.; Ralph Padgett of Woodlawn, Va.; Ted & Barbara Padgett of Galax, Va. and Charles Padgett of Elk Creek, Va.; sisters Hattie Johnson of North Carolina and Annie Edwards of Lambsburg, Va.; a son-in-law, James E. Burnette of Woodlawn, Va.; twenty-nine grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren also survive. The funeral service will be held Friday, July 21, 2006 at 11:00 AM in Hebron Church of Christ with Sammy Burnette and Billy Burnette officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The body will lie-in-state one hour prior to the funeral service. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from seven until nine at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
