Obituary

Alexis Georgia Wells Chapman (75) went to her Heavenly home on Friday, January 6, 2023.  She was born to Harold Wells and Wendy Winchell Wells Jewtraw on January 29, 1947 in Saranac Lake, NY.  She lived in the Lake Placid, NY area until she married the love of her life, Michael Chapman, on July 20, 1965.  As a naval wife Alexis worked as a licensed practical nurse throughout the country. She was an ordained minister who worked tirelessly with her husband to spread the Lord's love to everyone they met. They selflessly opened their home to many of God's children who found themselves in need of shelter throughout the years. Alexis felt her greatest calling was to serve the Lord and spread his message to everyone she came into contact with, often putting others needs before her own. She loved to bake and knit and was known for her generous spirit. However her favorite pursuit was worshiping and learning more about her Lord and savior. She read and studied her Bible and all types of religious books daily.

Alexis was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather Leo Jewtraw, an infant son, Gerard, and her loving husband Michael. She is survived by her devoted children Michael Chapman (fiancee Denise Stone) of Woodlawn, Va. and Rebecca Chapman of Galax, Va., her beloved grandson Adian Chapman of Richmond, Va. Her siblings Amy (Greg) Mace, Amanda (Patrick) Redman, Judith (Kevin) Geesler all of Saranac Lake, NY, JR (Heidi) Jewtraw and Julie (Brian) Barney of Lake Placid, NY.  Her bonus daughter Rev. Lori A. Lower of Williamsburg, Pa, and dear friends Dave and Neva Swenson of Woodlawn, Va.  Alexis also leaves numerous nieces and nephews in New York.

A memorial service will be held at 1 pm, Friday, January 13, 2023, at Galax Pentecostal Holiness Church officiated by Pastor Theron Phillips.  The family will be receiving visitors at the home of Sally Richardson located at 440 Country Club Lane, Galax, Va. and request in lieu of flowers donations be made to the church or to the charity of your choice in Alexis' name.
